Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 19, 2026
Excaliboard is a Chrome extension that lets you keep multiple Excalidraw whiteboards organised in folders. This policy explains what data it handles.
The short version. Your drawings stay on your computer unless you choose to send one to ChatGPT or Claude with the Ask AI button. Excaliboard has no servers, no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. The developer cannot see your boards.
What is stored, and where
| Data | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Your boards, folders, thumbnails and version history | In your browser's local extension storage (IndexedDB) on your device |
| Your Excalidraw library items | Same local storage |
| UI preferences (theme, collapsed folders, recent icons) | Your browser's local storage |
| Backup copies (optional) | A folder on your own computer that you choose. Excaliboard only writes there after you pick the folder |
Uninstalling the extension deletes its local storage. Backup files in a folder you chose stay where they are.
Network requests
Excaliboard works offline. It only makes network requests in these cases, all started by you:
- Online icon search (optional). The built-in icon sets are bundled inside the extension and searched locally. If you click “Search 200,000+ more on Iconify”, your search term is sent to the public Iconify API (
api.iconify.design) to fetch matching icons. Iconify's own privacy policy applies to that request. - Import from excalidraw.com (optional). If you click “Import from excalidraw.com”, Chrome asks your permission to access
excalidraw.com. Excaliboard then reads the drawing that excalidraw.com saved in your own browser and copies it into a new board. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. - Excalidraw libraries (optional). Clicking Browse libraries opens libraries.excalidraw.com in a new tab. When you click Add to Excalidraw there, the site sends you back to Excaliboard and the library file is downloaded from libraries.excalidraw.com and saved locally.
- Ask AI (optional). If you click Open in ChatGPT or Open in Claude, Chrome asks your permission to access that site (first time only). Excaliboard then opens it in a new tab and places an image of your board (or the part you selected) and your prompt into the message box. Nothing is sent until you press Enter there. What you send is then governed by OpenAI's or Anthropic's privacy policy. The image is also copied to your clipboard.
- Links you click inside your drawings open in a new tab as normal web pages.
Permissions
unlimitedStorage: lets large boards with images be stored locally without hitting the browser's default quota.scriptingplus the optionalexcalidraw.com,chatgpt.comandclaude.aiaccess: used only for the one-click import and Ask AI features described above, and only after you approve each site.
Data sharing
Excaliboard does not sell, share or transfer any user data to anyone, and it does not use data for advertising, creditworthiness or any purpose unrelated to the extension's single purpose of organising your drawings.
This website
The extension itself has no analytics. This website (not the extension) uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It uses no cookies, doesn't identify you and only reports totals such as pages visited, country and browser type.
